THE LEAD — Maine Maritime Academy used an early surge to power past host Lesley University, 87-49, Friday evening in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball action at Minuteman High School.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MMA wasted no time building an early lead with a 15-2 blitz out of the gate to help take a 27–10 lead after the first quarter.
  • The Mariners added 16 points in the second while outrebounding the hosts 14-7 in the stanza to take a 43–24 advantage into halftime.
  • Lesley played MMA close in the third quarter, edging the frame 18–16, but the Mariners erupted for 26 points in the fourth while holding the Lynx to nine to seal the decisive win and remain unbeaten in conference action.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • MMA's Hailey Blanchard finished just one assist shy of a triple-double going for 11 points, 10 rebounds and nine helpers.
  • Evelyn Dagan paced all scorers with 18 points, adding nine rebounds and three assists for the Mariners.
  • Sophomore Abbie Price (Waco, Texas.) led Lesley with a team-high 14 points while senior Leila Chisholm (Santa Barbara, Calif.) was next in scoring with 13 for the Lynx, adding a team-high six rebounds.
  • The Mariners shot an efficient 48.6 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from three, while limiting the Lynx to 32.7 percent shooting overall and 25 percent from beyond the arc.
