THE LEAD— Junior guard Savannah Gravitt (Richmond Hill, Ga.) scored a season-high 20 points including six three pointers to propel Lesley University past UMaine-Presque Isle, 61-52, on Friday evening in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball action at Minuteman High School.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Owls blitzed the hosts in the opening quarter, racing out to the early 17-13 lead but Lesley bounced back with a 12-8 advantage in the second to pull even at the break at 25-25.
  • The third quarter saw three times and four lead changes in a back-and-forth battle that ended with the Lynx on top by a 41-38 margin heading into the final frame.
  • UMPI opened the fourth with a 4-0 flurry to leapfrog LU for a 42-41 lead but the Lynx responded with a layup by senior Charlotte Meixsell (Boxford, Mass.) to regain a 43-42 cushion. Leila Chisholm (Santa Barbara, Calif.) added a jumper to make it 45-42 before Presque-Isle evened the score at 45-all on a layup from Lindsay Hamilton with just under six minutes to play.
  • Lesley immediately used a 7-0 run fueled by five points from Chisholm to open up a 52-45 lead which proved to be too much for the Owls to overcome as the hosts wrapped the night on top, 61-52 for the conference victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
