THE LEAD— The Mitchell College women's basketball team rode a barrage of three-pointers and a dominant first half to secure a 71–58 victory over Lesley University on Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Mariners set the tone early, outscoring the Lynx 22–8 in the second quarter to take a 37–17 lead into halftime.
  • Lesley found its rhythm in the second half, outscoring Mitchell 41–34 after intermission.
  • Mitchell shot 35.8% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range (12-for-32), compared to Lesley's 30.9% overall and 25% from deep (7-for-28). The Mariners also converted 11-of-13 free throws (84.6%).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Mitchell first year forward Delaney Fifield (Whately, Mass.) anchored the interior with seven points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks, while sophomore Jade Hypolite (Houston, Texas) filled the stat sheet with nine points, nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals in a complete 40-minute performance.
  • LU forward sophomore Alawnah Dunda (Fort Ann, N.Y.) paced the Lynx with 13 points and five rebounds.
  • Lesley also got 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting from senior Leila Chisholm (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and a strong all-around line of 13 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals from junior Savannah Gravitt's (Richmond Hill, Ga.).
  • The MC victory marked the first collegiate head coaching win for Mitchell's Tory Kennedy.

UP NEXT

  • After three road games to open the year, Lesley will take on Wentworth on Saturday, November 15 at 2:00 PM in their home-opener at Minuteman High.
  • The Mariners will look to build on the performance when they return to action Friday, November 14, hosting crosstown rival Connecticut College in non-league play at 5:00 PM.
