THE LEAD— Host New England College used a big first half to cruise to a 75-33 win over Lesley University in the 2025-26 season-opener for both squads.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lynx battled early as first year Mirandah Buch (Las Vegas, Nev.) drilled a three with 4:16 to play in the first to keep it close at 11-7 before the Grims ended the stanza on a 15-2 flurry to set the tone for the evening.
- NEC used a 12-0 blitz to open the second quarter to stretch the lead to 38-11 before Buch capped the scoring for the half to account for a 38-13 halftime score.
- Lesley got five points for Savannah Gravitt (Richmond Hill, Ga.) in the third quarter and four points each from Mariana Richwine (Buckeye, Ariz.) and Alawnah Dunda (For Ann, N.Y.) in the final stanza but it was not enough to prevail as NEC cruised in the opener, 75-33.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Xitlali Montesino and Nyah Belton led all players with 14 points each, respectively, while Camryn Lewis and Jayden Estrada chipped in with 11 points apiece to pace NEC.
- The Pilgrims shot 48.4% from the field in the victory (31-for-64) while hold LU to a dismal 12.1% shooting (7-for-58).
- Senior Leila Chisholm (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led the Lynx with a team-high eight points while Richwine shared the game-high rebounding total with seven with Belton.
