THE LEAD — Maine Maritime Academy stayed perfect in North Atlantic Conference women's volleyball action on Friday evening, defeating host Lesley University by a 3-0 final at Minuteman High School.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the opening set, the Mariners used an 8-0 run to open the match behind the service game of Hunnie Zuber-Stephens to take control and ride out a 25-14 win.
  • The sides traded points to a 4-4 score early in the second set before MMA put together six straight points including back-to-back aces from Bre Kerr to build a 10-4 cushion. Later in the set, back-to-back aces by Ally Hadley put the score out of reach as the visitors captured a 25-12 win to go ahead in the match, 2-0.
  • The Lynx did not go away without a fight, pulling ahead 8-6 following a service ace by junior Shae Thomas (Clayton, N.C.) but the lead was short-lived as the Mariners responded with eight straight points including three aces from Ayla Altman to swing the momentum back to the visitors for good in a 25-14 final set win.
