THE LEAD – Lesley University punched its ticket to the 2025 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Tennis postseason thanks to a gutsy 4-3 road victory over SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon. Down multiple starters, the Lynx battled for the conference win to secure the program's third consecutive NAC tournament berth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Jessica Legendre (Leesburg, La.) and first year Emily Laperriere (Tewksbury, Mass.) teamed up for the first time all season for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, but the Broncos were able to register wins in the No. 2 & 3 pairings to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
- Legendre cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles to even the match at 1-1 and Laperriere also picked up a decisive 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.
- Junior Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) battled in No. 2 singles, working for a 7-5 win in set 1 before coasting in set 2, 6-1 for another point in the match.
- Tali-Anna Sutherland (Bridgeport, Conn.) earned a huge 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 5 singles which proved to be the fourth point to secure the 4-3 win and playoff berth for the Lynx.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The singles win for Sutherland was both her first singles win on the year and during her career at LU.
- Boyce moves to 2-1 on the year out of the No. 2 singles slot.
- Legendre improves to 8-1 on the season in both singles and doubles action.
- This marks the seventh time this season Lesley has had a final match score of 4-3, and the first time they came out on the winning end (1-6 overall in 4-3 matches during 2025 season).
UP NEXT
- Lesley is idle in match play until Saturday, Oct. 11 for the NAC Quarterfinals which will be held at APEX Raquet Center in Portland, Maine. The Lynx won't know their opponent or seeding until NAC regular-season play concludes (Sunday, Oct. 5).
- The Broncos host Simmons University tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
