THE LEAD – The Lesley University women's tennis dropped a tight 4-3 decision on Saturday afternoon in non-conference road action to Salem State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Vikings jumped out to the 1-0 lead taking No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Lesley's No. 2 doubles grouping of senior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) and sophomore Anna Stamp (Belchertown, Mass.) cruised to a 6-1 win.
  • LU junior Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.) battled in No. 1 singles play, pulling out a 6-1, 6-4 win while Legendre coasted in No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
  • Stamp registered a 2-0 day with a win at No. 3 singles posting a 6-7 (10-8), 6-4 win to account for the third Lesley point in the match.
  • Despite the strong play from the top of the Lynx lineup, SSU was able to capture wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to take the match by a 4-3 final. Junior Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) put up a valiant effort in No. 3 singles, dropping the decision by a 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 4-6 score in three sets.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The final marked the third straight year the Vikings and Lynx have had their match decided by one point (5-4 SSU in 2024, 5-4 LU in 2023)
  • Legendre moves to 12-0 on the year in her singles and doubles play.
  • All six Lesley losses this year have come in closer 4-3 finals scores.
