THE LEAD – The Lesley University women's tennis dropped a tight 4-3 decision on Saturday morning in non-conference road action to the University of New England.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Nor'Easters jumped out to the 1-0 lead taking No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by 6-3 scores. Lesley's No. 2 doubles grouping of senior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) and sophomore Anna Stamp (Belchertown, Mass.) cruised to a 6-1 win.
- LU junior Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.) battled in No. 1 singles play, gutting out a 5-1, 7-6 win while Legendre coasted in No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
- Junior Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) bounced back with a strong showing in No. 3 singles by posting a 6-1, 6-4 win to account for the three Lesley points in the match.
- Despite the strong play from the top of the Lynx lineup, UNE was able to capture wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to take the match by a 4-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The match was the first meeting between the two programs in the first varsity season for the Nor'Easters who announced the addition of Women's Tennis back in April 2024.
- Legendre moves to 2-0 on the year in her singles and doubles play.
- Both matches to start the year for Lesley have finished in 4-3 finals, both going in favor of the opposition.
UP NEXT
- Lesley looks to bounce back on Thursday, Sept. 11 when they head to Clark University for a 3:30 PM non-conference match.
- UNE returns to the court the same day for the program's first road match of the year, a 3:30 tilt vs. UMaine Augusta.
