THE LEAD – Junior Bethany Slivka (Berkley, Mass.) netted a first half goal to help the Lesley University women's soccer program earn a hard-fought point with a 1-1 draw in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action vs. defending conference champion Husson University Saturday afternoon at John P. Boucher Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Husson opened the match as the aggressor, attempting four shots and two corners over the first 20 minutes of play but the Lynx struck first to shift the action. A foul from about 30 yards out gave Lesley a direct kick and Slivka delivered a strike that found the back of the net at the 23:47 marker to put the visitors on top, 1-0.
  • The score remained at 1-0, LU, heading into the break despite the hosts owning 5-3 shots edge at the intermission.
  • The Eagles came out swinging to open half 2 and it paid off with an early tally to even the score at 1-1. Jaquie Pangburn notched her team-leading fourth goal of the campaign, set up by Addi Laslie and Thea Gerfen less than 10 minutes into the second stanza (54:05).
  • Lesley senior keeper Madison Reed (Burlingame, Calif.) was solid down the stretch, making three saves over the final 13 minutes of play to help Lesley earn the draw in the conference opener for both sides.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The goal for Slivka was the first of her collegiate career.
  • Reed finished the game with six saves while Madison Weigler made four stops for HU.
  • Since joining the NAC, the squads are now 2-2-1 vs. one another and today's result marks the first tie between the programs in 10 career meetings.
  • The tie is the third of the season marking the first time in program history the team has recorded three draws before the end of September.
  • With the Lynx coming off a 1-1 draw vs. Suffolk this past Wednesday, it also marks the first time in program history that the team has posted back-to-back ties.
