Why: The only team hotter than the Blazers, who have lost only once in their last eight and won five of six to end the regular season, is the top-seeded Lynx. Lesley comes into Saturday's championship, the team's fourth straight, undefeated at 11-0-1 in the team's last 12 matches. Paul Vasconcelos' club went unblemished in NECC play for a third straight year, going 9-0-0 in league play.
How: Lesley topped No. 4 Becker College, 2-0, Thursday night, punching its ticket to the title game thanks to goals from Kate Ryder and Jackee Sanchez. The No. 3 Blazers have had a longer, more thrilling road to the championship than have the Lynx, recipients of a first-round bye. Elms knocked off No. 2 Mitchell on the road in penalty kicks, 3-3, Thursday afternoon, blowing 2-0 and 3-2 leads, but holding on to win 3-1 in penalty kicks. In NECC Quarterfinals action, the Blazers bested No. 6 Regis at home in Chicopee, MA, 3-0.
Key players: It's the usual suspects for Lesley. Veronica Halen is tied for the league lead with 18 goals, fellow sophomore Jackee Sanchez moved into fifth place in the NECC Thursday with her 14th goal, and senior tri-captain Jenna Fralick is third in the conference with 37 points and second with 11 assists.
For the Blazers, Gianna Gorneault leads the way with 13 goals and Jennifer Killion, fourth in the NECC with 73 shots, follows with 12 tallies and a team-best four assists. Gorneault scored two goals in the Blazers advancement past Mitchell, while sophomore forward Christina Goodchild added two assists.
Last meeting: 5-0, Lesley; 10/1/11, Cambridge, MA. Fralick and sophomore Sarah Apgar each scored two goals, and Halen tallied two assists as Lesley outshot the Blazers 24-1.
