THE LEAD - After a couple of deflating losses last week, the Lynx rebounded with some very close games over the weekend. They rode that momentum into a doubleheader against the VTSU Johnson Badgers. The Lynx got out to an early lead in game one and, along with incredible pitching, won their first game of the season. In game two, it was tied late, but a late-game surge split the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)

  • Isabella Moscoso started the bottom of the first with a first-pitch bunt. She then stole second and third. Shae Thomas then hit into an error, and the Lynx were first on the board.

  • To start off the 2nd, Lily Wright bunted to record her first career hit.
  • Then, to start the bottom of the 3rd, Moscoso reached second on an error. A bunt from Leah St. John got her to third, and a triple from Shae Thomas gave the Lynx another run.

  • They weren't done. Madison Herbert drew a walk and then stole second. That allowed Thomas to steal home. 3-0 Lynx

  • Once again, Moscoso reached on a leadoff error. Eleni Vrahatis then singled up the middle. St. John singled and reached second on the throw and scored another run.

  • Thomas then grounded out but got another RBI, and Herbert hit a sac fly to put the Lynx up 6-0.

  • The Badgers would then score two in the 6th, but it was all they could muster as the Lynx won their first game of the season 6-2

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 1)

  • Moscoso seemed to always be on base in big moments. She went 1 for 3 but scored three of the team's runs. She also stole two bases.

  • In her first win of the season, Herbert threw a complete game and recorded her 100th career strikeout. She had eight in this game. In her 7.0 innings, she had one earned run on six hits and walked two. At the plate, she walked, recorded an RBI, and hit a sac fly while also stealing a base.

  • In the other dugout, Kristie Zator had a game. She went 3 for 3 with two doubles. She accounted for a runa nd stole the team's only base.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)

  • The Badgers were the first to strike in game two, putting two runs up in the first, but the Lynx held them there for most of the game.

  • In the bottom of the third, Moscoso doubled and Vrahatis singled. Then, with a runner on second and third, St. John singled to score them both and tie the game.

  • Neither team did much offensively until the fifth, when the Badgers scored another two runs. Then, in the 6th, they got three more.

  • St. John then homered for her third RBI of the game.

  • In the bottom of the 7th, Savannah Gravitt singled for her first career hit.
  • The Lynx would ultimately fall 7-3.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 2)

  • St. John carried the team on her back this game. She went 3 for 3 with all three RBIs.

  • After throwing a complete game earlier, Herbert was back on the mound for another 5.0 innings. She allowed 3 earned runs on seven hits. She walked four but also struck out four.
