THE LEAD - After falling in both games to Salve Regina earlier in the week, the Lynx looked to rebound against Salem State. The Vikings, however, were relentless at the plate, and combined with a one-hitter, they ran away with the game. In game 2, the Lynx got off to an early lead, but the Vikings' bats were still hot. Despite their best offensive performance of the season, they ultimately fell.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)

  • Leah St. John singled with two outs in the first. She was left stranded out there. After that, the Vikings would put on one of the best pitching performances of the year.

  • In the bottom of the 1st, a couple of walks followed by four singles and a double quickly put the Vikings up 5-0. One more bases-loaded single would add another.

  • The following inning, the Lynx gave up a 2 out bases loaded walk to drive in another run, and two more singles made it 9-0.

  • The Vikings didn't yield. They put up eight in the 3rd, all with two outs.

  • Salem State, while up 17, ran the score up another nine runs with a barrage of singles.

  • The Lynx fell 26-0

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 1)

  • Isabella Moscoso pitched and led off at the plate. None of the Lynx did much on offense, but she was able to drive up the Vikings' pitch count and not strike out. On the mound, she was responsible for a double play.

  • For the Vikings, Madison Dewitt had a great game. She went 2 for 3 with a double. She led the team in RBIs with four and scored two runs

  • Gracie Martineau, Salem's pitcher, threw an incredible game. In her 5.0 innings, she gave up a single hit and struck out five.

  • 26 runs is the most runs the Lynx have given up in program history

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)

  • Despite the last game's defeat, the Lynx proceeded to put up their best offensive performance up to this point in the first inning. Moscoso started the game by getting plunked, and two wild pitches allowed her to get all the way to third. Eleni Vrahatis hit a sacrifice grounder to put the Lynx on the board.

  • St. John was then also plunked. She stole second, and a wild pitch got her to third. Shae Thomas then drew a walk. Madison Herbert grounded to short but scored for St. John. Then Lauren Martin doubled to put the Lynx up for the first time this season, 3-0

  • The Vikings didn't take kindly. They proceeded to put up nine runs. Tying their record for most runs in an inning this season. A record they set in the final inning of the last game.

  • In the 2nd, the Lynx couldn't put up any more, but Salem State scored four.

  • But on the 3rd, St. John singled and stole second. Then Thomas struck out but made it to first on a passed ball. She then stole too. Herbert singled to load the bases for the Lynx.

  • Martin grounded out, but it allowed St. John to score, and a passed ball scored Thomas.

  • Once again, the Vikings put up a big inning to stop the Lynx's momentum in its tracks.

  • For the first time all night, the Lynx were able to put a 0 on the scoreboard for the Vikings all night.

  • They rode that into the 5th, facing the run rule. Thomas drew a leadoff walk with a full count. Herbert then took one for the team, and Martin singled to load the bases. Jess O'Neil grounded out but recorded an RBI.

  • The Lynx ultimately fell 20-6.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 2)

  • The Lynx got the bats going this game, and Martin did the best at the plate. She went 2 for 3 with a double and drove in two runs.

  • Gracie Martinea was unstoppable all night for the Vikings. In game two, she went 2 for 3 with two doubles. She drove in three runs and scored three. She also came in to pitch an inning and struck out two without giving up a hit

  • The Lynx's six runs triple their season total so far
