Lesley University vs. Husson College

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The Lady Lynx needed to sweep Husson College to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Lynx certainly made a statement in the first game by winning it 9-1.

Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, NY) pitched an absolute gem against Husson College. Anzilotti pitched five innings, giving up zero earned runs on two hits, while striking out two and walking just one.

Once again the Lynx were led offensively by their young guns. Freshman Katie Bennett (Bartlett, NH) went 3-3 with five RBI’s. Freshman Sarah Wilson (Lowell, MA) went 2-3 with two runs scored, and an RBI. Freshman Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, MA) went 1-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Lesley jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after one inning. Husson was able to get a run in the second but Anzilotti shut them down after that. Lesley got one in the third, four in the forth and one in the fifth to end the game 9-1. Lesley goes for the seep over Husson in the second game of the double header.

The Lady Lynx kept there playoff hopes very much alive as they completed the sweep over Husson College and moved into fourth place in the NAC Eastern Division. Lesley now needs to either win one of two against Lasell College or have Husson College lose one of two against Maine Maritime in order for the Lynx to qualify for the playoffs.

Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, NY) who pitched beautifully in the first game against Husson was tagged early for three runs against The Eagles and was taken out of the game after two-thirds of an inning. Maureen Mikos (Fairfield, CT) came in for the Lynx and guided the team to a 7-5 victory.

Mikos pitched six and a third innings, giving up two runs on eight hits, while striking out seven and walking just one.

Mikos was helped out by the top four hitters in the Lynx order. Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, MA), Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, MA), Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, NY), and Sarah Wilson (Lowell, MA) went a combined 9-11, with five RBI’s, and six runs scored.

After Husson jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first Lesley responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs. Mikos was able to hold Husson off until the fifth inning as Lesley got three more in the bottom of the third. After Husson got one in the top of the fifth, the Lynx got two more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-4 lead. Husson got one more run in the top of the seventh but it was not enough as Lesley won the game 7-5. For more information on the Lesley softball team please go to their website.
