THE LEAD – Parker Cheyne scored his first two collegiate goals and Charles Gaynor added his first collegiate tally as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to snap a 1-all time and defeat Lesley University, 3-1, in non-conference action Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After an early chance by Younes Henniche, Lesley put a pair of shots on net which were saved by Mason Brooks. Brooks came up with a save off a shot that eventually came from a corner kick in the 23rd minute to keep the game scoreless.
  • Dylan Michaud just missed putting the Leopards on the board when his shot off a Carlos Jimenez corner kick sailed just right of the net.
  • With 1:25 left in the half, Cheyne took advantage of a Lynx turnover. He alertly intercepted the pass back and found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.
  • At the 53:28 mark, Lesley tied the game at 1-all. After a Wentworth turnover, Wassim Chaib (East Boston, Mass.) carried the ball in along the left side and fed Nick Wadleigh (Glastonbury, Conn.), who tapped a shot inside the right post.
  • Cheyne gave Wentworth a 2-1 lead with his second of the contest as a long pass came in from midfield that was misplayed by a Lesley defender. He ran through the ball and found an opening inside the far post.
  • Cheyne nearly recorded the hat trick off a Jimenez corner, however, his shot went over the crossbar.
  • At the 72:37 mark, Gaynor got the ball at the top of the box and dribbled through a pair of defenders, depositing the ball inside the left post for his first collegiate goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The contest was the 11th all-time meeting between the two teams [WIT 8-1-1].
  • Brooks made six saves for Wentworth, which had an 18-10 shot advantage and an 8-2 edge on corner kicks.
  • Aiden Hendricks (Richmond, Va.) and Josh Angulo-Gonzalez (Malden, Mass.) split time in net for Lesley. Hendricks made a pair of first half stops while Angulo-Gonzalez suffered the setback with a three-save second half.
