THE LEAD – Senior Aidan Stafford (Westford, Mass.) netted the lone goal to propel Lesley University past the University of Maine – Presque Isle, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference men's soccer action at Park Family Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After 37 minutes of scoreless action, Stafford found the back of the net for the only goal of the match following a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. The senior stepped up and drilled the attempt to put the Lynx on top, 1-0, late in the first half.
- Lesley owned an 8-1 edge in shots at the break and also a 3-1 advantage in corners.
- The match became very physical resulting in several cards including a red card issued to the Lynx in the 60th minute to give UMPI the man advantage for the final 30 minutes of play.
- The hosts had three shots on frame down the stretch but LU junior keeper Aiden Hendricks (Richmond, Va.) was up for the task, denying them all to preserve the 1-0 shutout road victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Hendricks finished the afternoon with four saves to earn the shutout win, both collegiate firsts.
- Lesley outshot UMPI by a 12-4 margin Sunday afternoon.
- Brett Senal made five stops in goal for the Owls.
- The victory was the first collegiate Head Coaching win for LU first-year Head Coach Andre Martins.

- UMPI is back next weekend when they host VTSU Johnson on Saturday, Sept. 27 in a NAC battle scheduled for a 3:30 PM kickoff.
