THE LEAD — The University of Maine-Presque Isle men's basketball team posted a 67-58 road victory over Lesley University on Friday evening in North Atlantic Conference action at Minuteman High School.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lesley first year center Moses Semuhoza (Westbrook, Maine) gave the hosts an early 4-3 lead but it proved to be the hosts only advantage of the action as the Owls maintained a multi-possession lead throughout most of the action.
- UMPI led by as many as 12 in the first half (28-16) following a triple by James Yamashita with 3:37 to play in the stanza before the Lynx stormed back to cut the deficit to 29-26 at the break thanks to a 10-1 flurry to close out the period.
- Ethan Arnold (Sanbornville, N.H.) pulled LU to within a point at 29-28 with the first hoop of the second half but an 8-0 blitz by UMPI opened things back up following a layup by Dwaine Williams to make it 37-28 with 17:05 to play.
- The hosts hung around, cutting the margin down to five at 49-44 following back-to-back buckets by senior Tarell Joseph (Hempstead, N.Y.) but the Lynx never got over the hill as UMPI held on for a 67-58 conference win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Arnold (Sanbornville, N.H.) led all scorers with 18 points including a 4-for-4 performance from the stripe. Ryan Ellis (Van Nuys, Calif.) and Semuhoza also finished in double-figures with 12 and 11 points each, respectively, while both hauling in eight rebounds.
- Akhe McMichael paced the Owls with a team-high 17 points, shooting 8-for-8 from the charity line in addition to a 1-for-1 clip from downtown.
- Both squads struggled from long-range as the Owls connected at an 18.2% clip (4-22) while LU was just 1-9 (11.1%).
