THE LEAD - The Lynxed headed to Bates for their last non-conference games of the season before they resume must-win NAC play. The Lynx underestimated the Bobcats in game 1, losing in a 7-inning game, but the Lynx gave them a run for their money in game 2. After tying the game late, Bates pulled ahead, and a 9th inning rally left the Lynx one run shy of splitting the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
-
It was a pitchers' duel with both teams only getting a single hit until the third when the Bobcats came alive. A bases-loaded plunk and single gave them the 2-0 lead.
-
The Lynx responded immediately when Gerlys Martinez singled on the first pitch and then scored all the way from first on a Caden Shott double.
-
The Bobcats then repeated with another two innings in the 4th and extended the lead further in the 6th with another three.
-
The Bobcats took game 1 with a 9-1 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 1)
-
The Lynx only managed five hits all game, and Shott accounted for two of them. In his 2 for 3 putting her doubled and recorded the only RBI for Lesley.
-
For the Bobcats, John Federico had a great game. He went 2 for 3 with a home run. He drove in four runs and accounted for a run.
-
On the mound, John Tully earned his 6th win of the season in a 7.0 inning complete game. He gave up one run on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)
-
The Bobcats were first on the board again when they put up two in the second.
-
Once again, the Lynx cut the lead in half as soon as they could: Logan Shudy drew a leadoff walk, then Andres Moreno singled, and Jacob Brown walked to load the bases. Grant Bazinet then hit into a double play but was able to drive in the run.
-
In the 4th, a Bobcat stole home to cap off a three-run inning.
-
Lesley countered with their best offensive inning of the day. Moreno drew a walk, Brown singled, and Bazinet was plunked to once again load the bases. A sac fly from Martinez brought in the first run. A single from Shott brought in another, and a single from Anthony Nyhuis made it 6-4.
-
Owen Finnegan was plunked next to load the bases, and then Cristopher Wallace singled to tie the game.
-
Bates, frustrated with the rally, immediately put up three runs to distance themselves.
-
It isn't until the 9th, with time running out, that the Lynx get hot again. Bazinet and Martinez walked back to back, and Shott singles to once again load the bases. Nyhuis drew a walk to make it 9-7. Finnegan was then hit by a pitch, 9-8. The next two Lynx recorded outs, and Lesley narrowly lost.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 2)
-
In a game where Lesley only put together 10 hits, Nyhuis was unstoppable, accounting for almost half of them. In game 2, he went 4 for 4 with a walk. He drove in two runs and scored one himself.
-
On the mound, Benjamin Coffey came in with the Lynx down, and his 3.1 scoreless innings gave them a chance. He allowed no hits, walked three, and struck out two to finish out the game.
-
Bate's leadoff bat, Keagan Ryan, put together an all-around outstanding game. At the plate, he went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and crossed home once. On the basepath, he stole, and in the field, he was responsible for a double play.
