THE LEAD - It's the final stretch of the regular season, and the Lynx are just outside making the NAC playoffs. Every game is crucial, and going into a doubleheader at VTSU Lydon, Lesley knows it. In game 1, they put up a run immediately and rode Jacob Nemergut's two-hitter to a victory. Then in game 2, the Lynx let up the lead in the opening innings and rallied late, but it's just not enough to get them the win as they split the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
-
Andres Moreno started the game with a walk, and he then stole second. Gerlys Martinez then smacked a single to drive in a run. It would be the only run of the game.
-
Nemergut got on the mound, gave up a leadoff walk, then retired every batter for the rest of the game but two.
-
The Hornets' pitching squad played almost as well. After the first, they gave up four hits, three walks, and no runs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 1)
-
Nemergut pitched a complete 7.0 inning game, earning his third win of the season. He gave up two hits and a walk while striking out six.
-
Despite the Hornets' strong pitching, Moreno still had a great game. He went 0 for 1 with two walks and also stole a base. He scored the sole run of the game. On the field, he was responsible for a double play.
-
The Hornets played three pitchers, but Tyler Kimball stood out the most. He pitched 3.0 innings, the longest outing for the team. He let up three hits and struck out three as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)
-
The Hornets were the first on the board in Game 2. In the 2nd, they managed their first run of the day.
-
In the 3rd, they added two more with a home run. However, the Lynx locked in and would only give up one more hit the rest of the game.
-
It took until the 6th for the Lynx's offense to start up. Anthony Nyhuis started the inning with a walk before Moreno got plunked. Jacob Brown then bunted to move them up, and a fielder's choice from Grant Bazinet drove one in. Next up, Martinez hit a sac fly to score another.
-
It would be all the Lynx would be able to get as they ultimately fell 3-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 2)
-
The Lynx only managed two hits all game. Despite the lack of offense, Nyhuis put together a pretty good game. He went 0-1 with a walk and scored one of the Lynx's runs.
-
James Labombard came in to close out the game. In his 1.0 innings, he only threw eight pitches. He managed to record a strikeout.
-
On the mound for the Hornets, Carlos Rodriguez threw a 5.0-inning shutout. He gave up two hits and struck out five.
