THE LEAD — The Lynx headed into their matchup against the Fisher Falcons after dropping three straight over the weekend. They got out to an early lead, but Fisher tied it up late, and strong pitching ultimately gave the Falcons the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
The Lynx started off hot. Anthony Nyhuis reached on an error, Grant Bazinet singled, and Gerlys Martinez walked to load the bases. Owen Finnegan drew a walk to score a run. Then Nathan Young hit a sac fly to score Bazinet.
-
Payne Johnson then singled to load the bases back up, and a single from Alexander Juhasz scored another two. His first collegiate RBI's.
-
The Falcons didn't take kindly to the rally. The leadoff man managed a walk on a full count. He then stole second and third. A grounder brought him home.
-
The Lynx were back at it in the 2nd. Nyhuis singled and stole second. Bazinet hit into an error, which allowed Nyhuis to score.
-
The Falcons got two walks in the bottom of the inning, and a triple scored them both.
-
They kept it going in the following inning. They drew another walk and got plunked. A ground rule double scored a run, and a single scored two more. They took the lead 6-5.
-
Nyhuis got plunked the following inning, and he stole second. A single from Martinez tied up the game.
-
Johnson started the 5th with a single. Juhasz bunted to move him up, and a double down the line from Andres Moreno scored Johnson.
-
A grounder from Logan Shudy moved Moreno up, and a double from Nyhuis added another run.
-
A Falcon singled, and the next batter hit one out to left that was dropped and allowed the runner to round the bases.
-
No one scored again until the 7th. Moreno singled, then stole second and third. A single from Nyhuis gave him another RBI.
-
In the bottom half, the Lynx let up two walks and hit a batter. A sac fly put the Falcons within one.
-
That one would come in the bottom of the 9th. The leadoff man singled and stole second. A single to left allowed him to tie the game and send it into extras.
-
In the bottom of the 10th, the Falcons loaded the bases, but a fielder's choice allowed the Lynx to keep playing.
-
In the 11th, they weren't as lucky. The leadoff batter walked on a full count and was subbed out by a pinch runner. He stole second. A grounder got him to third, and a single down the line walked it off.
-
The Lynx fell 10-9
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-
Nyhuis did everything in his power in this game. He went 3 for 5 at the plate with a double and was hit by a pitch. He recorded two RBIs and accounted for three of the Lynx runs, totalling over half the team's total. He also stole two bases and didn't strike out. On top of that, he was also the starting pitcher. He went 6.1 innings, no decision. He let up seven earned runs and five walks, but only gave up four hits and struck out four.
-
On the mound for the Falcons, Joziel Carmona completely shut down the Lynx. In his 4.0 innings, he only let up three hits and struck out three on his way to his first win of the season.
