THE LEAD - After falling short in extras on Wednesday, the Lynx looked to get back on track as they headed into a four-game, two-day series against UMaine Farmington. In his first start since winning the NAC Pitcher of the Week, Jacob Nemergut had a rocky first inning, but an ultimately strong outing and great offense gave the Lynx a 6-4 win in game 1. But the second was all Beavers. This time their pitching and bats were unstoppable as they cruised to an 8-0 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
-
In the top of the 1st, the Beavers got two walks and a double, which drove them both in for an early lead.
-
The Lynx answered back as fast as they could. Logan Shudy drew a leadoff walk. He then stole second and made it to third on an error. A triple from Caden Shott drove in a run, and a single from Grant Bazinet tied up the game.
-
Lesley led off the 2nd with a triple from Anthony Nyhuis. A sacrifice fly from Nathan Young made it 3-2.
-
Not much action in the 3rd and 4th.
-
The Beavers doubled in the 5th, and an error made it first and second. A plunked batter loaded up the bases, and a sac fly tied the game back up. The next man up reached on an error, and it cost the Lynx another run.
-
It wasn't until the bottom of the 6th when the Lynx struck back. Owen Finnegan drew a leadoff walk, then stole second, and a fly out from Nyhuis moved him to third.
-
Young then reached on an error, made it to third, and was then thrown out at third when we walked off the base. But in the chaos, Nyhuis tied the game back up.
-
The next inning, Shudy made it to third, but two straight outs stranded him there.
-
In the 8th, Gerlys Martinez smacked a triple, and this time they were able to drive him in with a single from Finnegan. Two sacrifice outs brought him to third, and a single from Payne Johnson gave the Lynx insurance and Johnson's first collegiate RBI.
-
Lesley won game 1, 6-4
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 1)
-
Shott did a little bit of everything today. He went 1 for 3 with a triple. He drove in a run and accounted for another. On the field, he was responsible for a double play.
-
Nemergut shined, he pitched 7.0 innings, he gave up four runs, but only two earned on just three hits. He struck out eight and walked three.
-
Benjamin Coffey got the first win of his college career. He pitched 1.0 inning and only gave up a hit. James Labombard recorded the first save of his college career today, too. He pitched 1.0 innings and walked one.
-
For the Beavers, Tyler Rosa went 1 for 3 with a walk and a double. He drove in two of the team's runs with it.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)
-
The Beavers started the game again with an early lead. They got a man on with a walk and a triple drove him home. The Beaver who hit the triple tried to make it an inside-the-park home run, but the Lynx put a stop to that.
-
UMaine continued to put the hurt on in the 2nd. The first runner struck out but reached on a wild pitch. The next man up got plunked, and a single loaded up the bases. A walk drove in a run, and the next man up singled to center and drove in two more. Beavers up 4-0.
-
In the third, Andres Moreno made his way to third, but the Lynx left him out there.
-
Neither team did much in the 4th or 5th.
-
The 6th started promising for the Lynx, getting the leadoff looking. But three straight walks hurt those hopes. Another walk drives in a run, and a double from the next batter clears the bases.
-
In the bottom of the 7th, the final inning, the Lynx drew two walks, but two flyouts immediately sealed their fate.
-
Lesley falls 8-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 2)
-
None of the Lynx got much going offensively, but Nyhuis was able to get two hits in his three appearances. The team only managed three hits.
-
Although only pitching 1.0 innings, Jack Butler was able to stop the UMF at just one hit. He also got a strikeout in his outing.
-
Brady Vincent was unstoppable in this game. At the plate, he went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. He drove in four, half of the team's runs. He also pitched 5.2 innings. He let up three hits and four walks while striking out six on his way to his first win of the season.
