THE LEAD — Coming off two huge wins yesterday, the Lynx looked to continue their dominance as they took on Farmingdale State. The Rams came into the game hoping to wrap up their Florida play with one last win. After putting up 6 in the first two innings and giving up a single hit in the first 6 innings, the Rams went home with the lopsided win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
The Rams scored first with the second batter getting an RBI. A couple of batters later, they put up another.
-
In the 2nd, a single to right drove in a run and loaded up the bases. Another single scored three, and the Rams were up 6-0 early.
-
The Lynx seemed as if they were going to get going when the leadoff walked on four pitches, their first baserunner, and made it to second on a balk, but three straight swinging strikeouts killed those hopes.
-
Kolten Moyer was able to send all three Rams back to the dugout in the third
-
In the 4th, the Lynx were able to turn a double play.
-
The tides started to turn in the bottom half when Gerlys Martinez smacked a double to left, the first Lynx hit of the game, but for the second time in the game, Martinez was stranded out there.
-
In the 6th, the Rams loaded the bases up again, and a wild pitch scored a run. A single up the middle, scored the other two. 9-0 Rams.
-
They did not let up. In the 7th, three straight batters drove in three runs. A couple later, they scored one more just for good measure.
-
In the bottom of the 7th, the last hope for the Lynx, they had their best offensive inning. Owen Finnegan singled, and Adiel Azuara did too. But the next batter up hit into a double play to end the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-
Martinez did everything he could for the Lynx. He walked in his first appearance, doubled in his second, then walked again, all three times left on base.
-
Moyer pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 10 runs, nine runs, and five walks. He struck out two in his outing
-
For the Owls, Mike D'Angelo went 4 for 4 with four RBI's and a run for himself. He was, however, caught stealing.
-
On the mound, Christian Pellegrino got his first win of the season in his 5-inning outing. He gave up a single hit and two walks while striking out nine, half the batters he faced.
UP NEXT
-
The Lynx finish up their Florida play with a doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark and Salem State tomorrow at 9 AM and 12:30 PM, respectively.
-
The Rams will return home to take on the City College of New York in a doubleheader on Sunday March, 22nd.
