THE LEAD — After dropping their first game in Florida, the Lynx look to rebound going into their first game of a doubleheader. The Owls go into their first game of the season with hopes of starting on the right foot. The Lynx pitching was untouchable, and a 3rd inning rally decided this 6 inning game early.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams went 1-2-3 in the first.

  • Grant Bazinet singled to start off the 2nd and immediately stole a base and then another, and a Nathan Young single drove him home.

  • In the 3rd, Anthony Nyhuis walked, and Caden Shott reached on an error. Bazinet was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and a single to left from Gerlys Martinez drove in 2.

  • Young singled to put the Lynx up 5-0.

  • In the 5th, Young singled again, a single from Logan Shudy advanced him to second, and a Justin Owolabi double down the line brought him home.

  • In the bottom of the 6th, Jacob Nemergut's perfect game was broken up by a single to right.

  • The game was called after the 6th, giving the Lynx a 6-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Young went 3 for 3. He batted in three runs and accounted for one himself. He also stole a base. On the field, he was responsible for a double play

  • Bazinet went 2 for 2 and was hit by a pitch. He stole a NAC season record of four bases.

  • On the mound, Nemergut pitched a complete game, striking out a NAC season high eight and allowing only one hit and no walks.

  • For the Owls, Seth Espling pitched 3.1 innings, struck out three, allowed four hits, but only a single run.

  • Both the Lynx and the Owls will play immediately following this game as part of their doubleheader.
