Location: Northborough, Mass. – New England Baseball Complex

Date: Thursday, March 12, 2026

THE LEAD — Following a handful of games delayed by the weather, the Lynx finally kicked off their season at Anna Maria. Lesley looked to improve on last season's 20-18 record heading into opening day. The AMCATs hoped to keep their win streak alive as they headed into Thursday's match. The two teams kept in close nearly the entire game, but a 9th inning rally for the Lynx gave them the opening day win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Andres Moreno was first up for the Lynx this season and drew a walk.

  • Next up, Anthony Nyhuis smacked a double to right, and Moreno put the Lynx up immediately.

  • Grant Bazinet singled up to right, but Lesley wasn't able to bring either runner home in the 1st.

  • On the mound, Jacob Nemergut threw a quick 1-2-3 inning

  • Owen Finnegan walked to start the second and stole second, but was picked off, and the Lynx couldn't get anything going.

  • The AMCATs started their 2nd reaching first on an error, then a walk, and a fielder's choice left them with first and third. A single to the right tied up the game 1-1.

  • The next few innings would be quick for the Lynx. Anna Maria found themselves with baserunners every inning but were never able to get them all the way around.

  • Finnegan got plunked to start off the 5th, and a Logan Shundy double gave Lesley the lead back.

  • They would give up quickly, though. The first batter up for the AMCATs walked and made his way to third on two wild pitches. A single tied the game back up.

  • Both teams got some men on base in the following innings, but they were all left stranded.

  • In the 8th, Anna Maria had a man on first and second with no outs, but a strikeout from Kolten Moyer and a double play saved the Lynx's hopes

  • Lesley rode that momentum into the 9th. Jacob Brown walked to lead off the inning and advanced on a passed ball. Then Moreno bunted him over to third, and he stole second. Nyhuis was intentionally walked, and Caden Shott was accidentally walked and gave the Lynx the lead back.

  • Bazinet hit a sac fly to drive in Moreno, and a double from Gerlys Martinez drove in Nyhuis and Shott to put the Lynx up 6-2 in the 9th.

  • James Labombard came in for a quick 1-2-3 inning to give the Lynx the opening day win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Nyhuis went 1 for 3 with a double and two walks; he drove in a run and accounted for one of his own. He also did not strike out.

  • Martinez was the only Lynx with multiple RBIs thanks to his double in the 9th. He went 1 for 5 in the game

  • Bazinet was the only Lesley player with multiple hits, going 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. His sac fly in the 9th also earned him an RBI.

  • On the mound, Nemergut, Roy Lenhard, and Moyer all pitched two innings and got two strikeouts, with the latter getting the win. Nemergut let up a hit, a run, and a walk - Lenhard walked two, and Moyer gave up two hits

  • For the AMCATs, Mason Kolczewski was the MVP. He went 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI and did not strike out. He was also responsible for a double play.

  • On the mound for Anna Maria, Jesse Buonocore threw a great game. He pitched five complete innings, letting up four hits, two runs, walking three, and striking out nine.
