Track and Field Shines at Both Tufts University Sunshine Classic and Sean Collier Invitational

THE LEAD – The Lesley University men's and women's track and field teams competed in both the Tufts University Snowflake Classic and Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT. At Saturday's meets, multiple personal bests were set by both men's and women's squads including multiple program records on the men's side.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Hezekiah Brown (Stafford, Va.) once again had a solid outing for the Lynx Saturday at the Sean Collier Invitational setting multiple program records. First in track events, he set new new program records in both the 100m and 200m. In the 100m, he broke his previous record with a time of 11.31 seconds (24th place) and in the 200m, he crossed the finish line at 22.92 seconds (25th place). Both of his times in the race have ranked second within the conference in terms of fastsest times for those events. Meanwhile in long jump, Brown set yet another program record with a leap of 7.03m (second place) which also qualifies him for New England Regionals held later this spring. Brown's mark in Saturday's meet is currently the best in the entire conference. 
  • Jelanie Morgan (Atlanta, Ga.) also took part in the 100m at the Sean Collier Invitational Saturday where he notched a a personal record with a time of 11.96 seconds (41st place). 
  • At the Tufts University Sunshine Classic, Johnny Maldonado  (Chelsea, Mass.) led the squad with a 15th place finish in the 1500m at 5:54.0 and not far behind him was Liam McNeil (Hudson, N.H.). McNeil finished in 16th place with a time of 6:26.82 which marked a new career-best for the first year runner. 
  • Finally, in shotput at the Sunshine Classic, Osmin Castaneda (East Boston, Mass.) earned a 19th place finish with a toss of 6.82m. 

 

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Rebecca Hall (Richmond, Vt.) led the Lynx at the Sean Collier Invitational with a personal record in the 800m at 2:55.58 (32nd place). Not far behind her was Dairly Sanchez-Vargas (Chelsea, Mass.) with a time of 3:01.44 (34th place). 
  • At the Sunshine Classic, Estephany Morales (New York, N.Y.) competed in the 800m and crossed the finish line in 19th place at 3:38.96. Her time Saturday not only was a personal record, but it was also her first time competing in that event. 
  • In the 1500m, MacKenzie Mann (Franklin, Mass.) recorded a 11th place finish at 6:45.06 which was good for 11th place. Right behind her was Holly Swinamer (Franklin, Mass.) at 8:18.32 (12th place).

  • Lesley returns to action this Saturday, April 26 when the squad heads to Colby College for the North Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
